Iowa State hosts 11th First Amendment Day

Iowa State University’s journalism school will host its 11th First Amendment Day on Thursday, April 11, in Ames, Iowa.

It is an annual celebration of the civil rights enshrined in the nation’s first constitutional amendment, including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and right to criticize public figures and government officials.

The First Amendment was ratified on December 15, 1791.

Frank LoMonte, executive director of the Student Press Law Center, will lead a discussion in Ames about the First Amendment and high school journalism after the annual Freedom March from Ames City Hall to Central Campus.

During the lunch hours, there will be the Feast on the First Amendment. It will take place at Central Campus from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The FAD organizers are selling T-shirts for $5.
