Iowa State hosts 11th First Amendment Day

Iowa State University’s journalism school will host its 11th First Amendment Day on Thursday, April 11, in Ames, Iowa.

It is an annual celebration of the civil rights enshrined in the nation’s first constitutional amendment, including freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly and right to criticize public figures and government officials. (more…)

WDM Valley student wins essay contest

A student at West Des Moines Valley has won the 2011 Champions of Freedom Essay Contest.

Maggie Martin won for her essay titled “Power of the Word.” She will receive a first-place award of $250. (more…)

Greenlee student creates First Amendment flag

April 1, 2011

This year First Amendment Day will feature a flag designed to commemorate the event, and it was designed by a Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication student.

Linley Bruess, a senior in advertising, took on the design of the flag voluntarily in addition to her regular coursework, role as president of ISU’s Ad Club and her job as the Creative Department student manager for the Iowa State Daily. (more…)

Blog’s poetry slam coming up Tuesday
